Jobcentre JSA sanctions to be based on verbal, email, text, or telephone communications only

From Monday 22nd of October, Jobcentre (Employment Officer/Adviser) Jobseeker’s Directions can be given:

1.     verbally
2.     in writing
3.     by email
4.     by telephone or
5.     by other electronic means (eg. text message).

Section 40 of the memo also indicates that the role of an Employment Officer could be delegated to Welfare to Work providers.

Sanctions and time to show good cause

For JSA sanctions the time constraints to show a ‘good cause’ (appeal) has been lifted, though sanctions relating to “failure to attend” the time frame will remain 5 days, though there is scope for the requirement to be less than 5 days.
